It might seem a bit odd thinking about healthy offices when we are so close to Christmas, but you would be surprised the simple things we can do to feel better and be healthier when we are working day to day. Here are my tips for ensuring you remain healthy and happy while at work over the winter months!
Firstly, get some movement in! It is well known that sitting down all day long has dire consequences for your health – what should you do instead? Stand up! It is possible to get a standing/sitting desk which can be raised and lowered to accomodate standing up to work, or if that is a stretch too far, why not set an alarm on your phone to remind you to get up and have a little walk around every hour? This will get you the benefits of standing without spending a fortune.
Drink up – it is important especially during the winter that you drink enough water. Heating and artificial air conditioning can cause havok with your skin, drying it out and sapping all the life out of it. Drink at least 2 litres of water per day and feel fresh and healthy!
Keep your hands clean – it is the season for bugs and illness, so ensure you keep your hands clean by washing them throughly throughout the day. Also keep some antibacterial wipes handy so you can wipe over your desk, keyboard, mouse and phone – you’d be amazed how many bugs are lurking on your grubby desk equipment!
